Six Florida Organizations Receive Grants to Advance Family Literacy Programs

MAITLAND, Fla. - June 13, 2025 - PRLog -- Florida Literacy Coalition, with generous support from the Kislak Family Foundation, has awarded $60,000 in grants to six organizations across Florida to establish or further develop family literacy programs. This initiative recognizes that parents are their children's first and most important teachers and aims to break the intergenerational cycle of illiteracy and limited education.

The following organizations each received a $10,000 grant through this initiative:
  • Learn to Read of St. Lucie County
  • Learn to Read of St. Johns County
  • Literacy Alliance of Northeast Florida
  • Literacy Coalition of Palm Beach County
  • Literacy Collier
  • The Literacy Council of Sarasota, Inc.

These grants support community-based programs designed to empower families and promote lifelong learning. Funded programs integrate, 1) Adult basic education and literacy or English as a Second Language (ESL) skills training for parents, 2) Age-appropriate educational activities for young children, 3) Interactive literacy activities that engage both parents and children.

"Family literacy programs go beyond providing childcare so parents can attend class, they take a holistic approach in which families participate and learn together," says FLC Executive Director Greg Smith. "We are most grateful to the Kislak Family Foundation for its support of this initiative, which will have a positive impact on many Floridians."

"We are honored to support the Florida Literacy Coalition and its commitment to strengthening families through education," said Tom Bartelmo, CEO of the Kislak Family Foundation. "By investing in family literacy, we help empower parents and children alike, creating brighter futures and stronger communities for generations to come."
