The study followed over 2,100 high school students from 97 classrooms across six Philadelphia schools who participated in the 12-week Inner Strength Teen Program. Researchers found that students with lower self-regulation skills at the start of the program experienced the greatest gains in self-compassion— "These findings reinforce what we see every day in classrooms," The Inner Strength Teen Program teaches students to cultivate mindfulness, compassion, and emotional resilience through a developmentally- "This research helps us better understand how classroom environments shape individual growth," said Dr. Razza. "It shows us that mindfulness can create ripple effects—especially in communities where systemic stress is highest."
