GENTING LANE, Singapore - May 9, 2025 - PRLog -- igus addresses the ecological and economic challenge of leftover cable lengths by offering them at a 50% discount through its online shop. With over 1,350 cable types, storing or scrapping residual lengths (typically 10–50m) is impractical and unsustainable. Instead, igus integrates these leftovers into its shop, where customers can easily see availability. While these cables can't be cut to custom lengths, the initiative has been well-received, leading to a 137% increase in orders and a 111% rise in sales, helping both customers save money and igus reduce waste.

igus is enhancing the sustainability of its cable lifecycle through multiple initiatives. The new residual stock program complements efforts to reduce environmental impact from production to recycling. The company focuses on durable cable design, backed by extensive R&D and testing, offering a four-year guarantee to minimize waste from premature failures.

To cut CO₂ emissions, igus uses local supply chains for 70% of its cables and ships them in eco-friendly chainflex CASE cardboard packaging, eliminating plastic waste. Additionally, igus recycles used cables, recovering over 95% of the copper to produce new wires, further supporting a circular economy.

New service life calculator combines efficiency and sustainabilityThe chainflex cables are designed to function reliably in energy chains made of high-performance plastic, even with high movement rates and tight bend radii. They are used in robotics, machine tools, cranes and offshore applications, among others. However, every application places different loads on cables. The new, improved chainflex service life calculator enables customers to find the optimum cable for their individual application - in terms of both costs and sustainability. After the customer has entered the application parameters, the online tool determines the service life of the selected cable based on real data from the test laboratory and AI-based calculations. In addition, the tool offers up to 15 alternative cable types that are either more favourable or even better for the respective application than the one originally selected. "The tool not only increases planning reliability, but also contributes to sustainability by preventing the use of unsuitable products," concludes Rössel.
