World War II Book Author Calls Trump's Claim about America and World War II Ludicrous

LOS ANGELES - May 7, 2025 - PRLog -- President Trump has declared May 8 a national holiday. This is the date that Nazi Germany surrendered during World War II. Trump flatly boasted it should be a holiday because America won World War II. Political analyst and author Earl Ofari Hutchinson says Trump is dead wrong about the U.S.'s role in the war. In his latest work, How World War II Remade America (Middle Passage Press, 2025), Hutchinson says that there were many forces, developments, actors, and countries that were instrumental in waging and winning the war, let alone solely winning the war.

Hutchinson further notes that World War II made profound changes in America's political, economic, and social structures and relations. The war in other words did more to shape and change America than America did to shape and change the world before, during and after the war.

World War II holds fascination for so many simply by dent of the oft repeated line taken from the title of famed author Studs Terkel's book, The Good War: An Oral History of World War II. It was "the last good war." This characterization of World War II is a seeming oxymoron. Despite the apparent contradiction, Terkel got it right simply because the war changed so much about the U.S. and the world and it continues to shape it decades later.

How World War II Remade America pays tribute to the profound changes the war brought to America and the men and women who made those changes. The one certainty about any new look at World War II is that if the U.S. had not entered the global fight, it would be a much different America today.

This is a fact that Trump in making his claim and declaring a holiday about America solely winning World War II is beyond ludicrous.
