Creative Investment Research Releases April 2025 Black Employment Analysis

Data Shows Rising Unemployment and Declining Job Participation

WASHINGTON - May 2, 2025 - PRLog -- Creative Investment Research today released its analysis of the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics' April 2025 employment data, revealing a troubling trend: Black workers are experiencing a rising unemployment rate and a shrinking share of labor force participation, signaling deepening inequities in the American job market.

According to the seasonally adjusted data, the Black unemployment rate climbed to 6.3% in April, up from 6.2% the previous month and the highest level seen since January. The number of unemployed Black individuals increased by 29,000, reaching 1.399 million, even as the overall labor force shrank by 7,000.

"This is not a normal fluctuation," said William Michael Cunningham, economist and founder of Creative Investment Research. "We are seeing persistent weakness in Black employment despite broader economic growth indicators. The decline in labor force participation and employment suggests a systemic failure to connect Black talent with economic opportunity."

Key findings from the analysis include:

Black employment declined by 36,000 in April.
The employment-population ratio fell to 58.2%, its lowest level since January.
The Black civilian labor force participation rate dipped slightly to 62.1%.
The civilian noninstitutional Black population grew by 32,000, indicating that employment opportunities are not keeping pace with population growth.

These findings come amid growing concern about the disparate impact of inflation, tariffs, and regulatory rollbacks on communities of color. Cunningham added, "Without targeted interventions—including radical collaboration and cooperation among Black firms,  job training, new access to capital pathways (including crowdfunding), and enforcement of anti-discrimination laws—we risk a generation of lost Black economic potential."

Creative Investment Research urges policymakers, business leaders, and advocates to respond decisively to these labor market signals. The firm will continue to monitor and publish data-driven insights on the economic well-being of underserved communities. See: https://www.impactinvesting.online/2025/05/a-deterioratin...
