According to the seasonally adjusted data, the Black unemployment rate climbed to 6.3% in April, up from 6.2% the previous month and the highest level seen since January. The number of unemployed Black individuals increased by 29,000, reaching 1.399 million, even as the overall labor force shrank by 7,000. "This is not a normal fluctuation," Key findings from the analysis include: Black employment declined by 36,000 in April. The employment-population ratio fell to 58.2%, its lowest level since January. The Black civilian labor force participation rate dipped slightly to 62.1%. The civilian noninstitutional Black population grew by 32,000, indicating that employment opportunities are not keeping pace with population growth. These findings come amid growing concern about the disparate impact of inflation, tariffs, and regulatory rollbacks on communities of color.
