By: Southern Ocean County Chamber of Commerce This beloved service has provided residents and visitors with a scenic, comfortable, and convenient way to travel across the bay. With its 25-passenger pontoon boat offering covered seating, the ferry continues to be a vital link connecting the historic seaport town of Tuckerton and Long Beach Island. For the 2025 summer season, the ferry will operate on Saturdays, Sundays, and Mondays from July 4 through Labor Day, with departures from Tuckerton Seaport at 8:00 AM, 11:00 AM, 2:30 PM, and 5:30 PM and return trips from Beach Haven Public Dock at 9:30 AM, 12:30 PM, 4:00 PM, and 7:00 PM. The ferry's journey began with the pilot program in 2017, which provided increased access to public transportation and fostered appreciation for the bay's beauty and ecosystem. Its success was rooted in the Southern Ocean Chamber's Vision 2020 strategic plan, launched in honor of the Chamber's 100th anniversary in 2014. With economic growth and tourism as key priorities, the Chamber collaborated with local municipalities to craft sustainable programs that would benefit both residents and businesses. After forming a dedicated committee, stakeholders met monthly to plan, research funding opportunities, and solidify a long-term model for the ferry's continued operation. From its first voyages which debuted alongside the Ocean County Decoy Show in 2018, the ferry has become a cornerstone of seasonal travel in the region, winning a New Jersey Tourism Excellence Award in 2019.
