Follow on Google News | Edison National Bank/Bank of the Islands donates $2,000 to Rotary Wheels for Wheels ChallengeBy: Edison National Bank/Bank of the Islands To support the island communities, the bank's "We Love Our Islands" program calls on its customers each week, empowering them to choose a nonprofit to receive a donation from the bank. Participating customers place a "We Love Our Islands" decal on their vehicle and Edison National Bank/Bank of the Islands randomly selects a participant for an opportunity to choose which nonprofit will receive the bank's donation that week. This donation marks $148,600 awarded to date through the "We Love Our Islands" program. All islanders are invited to participate in the program and may visit the bank's Sanibel or Captiva offices to pick up a vehicle decal. "We are so pleased to support Wheels for Wheels with our latest donation," said Robbie Roepstorff, president of Edison National Bank/Bank of the Islands. "Following the Rev. Howard S. Danner, Jr.'s founding leadership, the Sanibel-Captiva Rotarians have continued his cycling fundraiser. As a result, in partnership with the Wheelchair Foundation, hundreds of wheelchairs have been donated to those in need of life-affirming mobility as far away as Barbados and Trinidad. This donation is a great way to salute the charitable works of our fellow islanders and show how much we appreciate being your island bank." The Howard S. Danner, Jr. Wheels for Wheels Cycling Challenge benefits the Wheelchair Foundation, a nonprofit organization leading an international effort to create awareness of the needs and abilities of people with physical disabilities and deliver a wheelchair to every child, teen and adult in the world who needs one, but cannot afford one. The local challenge was created by John Danner in honor of his late father, Rev. Howard S. Danner, Jr., who was struck by a drunk driver while biking and was paralyzed from the waist down.
