By: SAFE Net Lake Charles, LA – SAFE Net (Scam Awareness & Fraud Education Network), a newly formed nonprofit organization dedicated to combating fraud and scams, is officially launching operations in Southwest Louisiana. With a clear mission to empower and educate the community, SAFE Net aims to provide critical knowledge and resources to prevent and respond effectively to scams and fraudulent activities. The mission of SAFE Net is simple yet powerful: to protect and empower Southwest Louisiana residents by providing comprehensive education and proactive strategies against scams and fraud. As scams become increasingly sophisticated and prevalent, SAFE Net stands ready to provide timely guidance, assistance, and resources to the public, particularly vulnerable populations such as seniors and local small businesses. The inaugural board meeting for SAFE Net is scheduled for May 7, 2025, in Lake Charles, LA, and will feature a dynamic group of professionals volunteering their expertise and commitment. Board members will include local entrepreneurs, professionals from the banking industry, law enforcement personnel, cybersecurity experts, and fraud investigation specialists. This diverse and experienced group is uniquely positioned to address the growing needs of the community. In the coming months, SAFE Net plans to launch an aggressive schedule of educational classes tailored specifically for seniors and local businesses. These initiatives will include informative sessions on recognizing and avoiding common scams, securing personal and financial information, and responding appropriately if targeted by fraud. Additionally, SAFE Net volunteers will distribute printed educational materials throughout the community to extend the reach of their message. Long-term goals for SAFE Net include becoming the foremost resource in Louisiana for scam prevention and education, establishing strong partnerships with law enforcement and governmental agencies, and advocating for stronger protections and resources for fraud victims at both local and state levels. "SAFE Net is filling a critical gap in our community," said Brandon LaVan, founder of SAFE Net. "There's nothing quite like this initiative in Louisiana. We're creating a comprehensive community response to fraud and scams, a response driven by education, awareness, and community engagement." SAFE Net is actively seeking volunteers, potential sponsors, and partners to support its vital community work.
