AMARILLO, Texas - Feb. 10, 2025 - PRLog -- David Prescott, local business owner and community leader, has officially announced his candidacy for Amarillo City Council, Place 3. A lifelong problem solver and founder of Talon/LPE, an environmental consulting and engineering firm, Prescott is running on a platform of business-minded leadership, government transparency, and smart financial management.

"Amarillo is a city of hardworking people, strong businesses, and conservative values. It needs leadership that reflects that," said Prescott. "With a half-billion-dollar budget, City Hall should be run with the same efficiency and accountability as a well-managed business. I know how to make smart financial decisions, manage resources, and keep government working for the people—not the other way around."

A West Texas A&M University graduate, Prescott holds a B.S. degree in Environmental Science and Biology, an M.B.A. in Business Leadership and Management, a Master of Science in Environmental Science, and is currently completing his Ph.D. in Agricultural Sciences. His leadership has been recognized at the state level, with Governor Rick Perry appointing him to the Texas Board of Professional Geoscientists in 2013 and Governor Greg Abbott reappointing him in 2019 before naming him Board Chair in 2023. In September 2024, he was invited to Harvard for a leadership and management scaling-up conference in Cambridge, MA.

Beyond his business success, Prescott has been involved in the Amarillo nonprofit community, serving with the Amarillo Area Foundation, the Chamber of Commerce, and the Boy Scouts of America, among others. He is particularly focused on supporting Amarillo's workforce, calling it "the city's greatest asset" and pledging to do everything he can to support our local businesses and workforce, create jobs, and make Amarillo a place where people want to work and raise a family.

David Prescott will focus on:
  • Improving Amarillo's infrastructure - Streets, Roads, Drainage, Sewer treatment plant
  • Keeping taxes low and spending wisely
  • Making Amarillo a place where business can thrive
  • Supporting and building Amarillo's workforce
  • Increasing communication and transparency
  • Fully supporting Public Safety

"City Council might be a volunteer position, but it shouldn't come with volunteer-level experience," said Prescott. " I love Amarillo. This city shaped me, gave me opportunities, and supported my success. Now, it's my turn to step up. Right now, Amarillo is facing real challenges—water problems, infrastructure failures, and no long-term plan for economic or infrastructure growth. These aren't issues you can talk your way out of. Our city needs leaders with knowledge, experience, and the willingness to take responsibility. We have to fix our infrastructure problems and make sure Amarillo's economy and workforce stays strong for the next generation."
