WASHINGTON - Jan. 23, 2025 - PRLog -- Saint Augustine Catholic School will celebrate Catholic Schools Week, an annual national event highlighting Catholic schools' unique role in fostering academic excellence, faith formation, service, and community. Taking place from January 26 to February 1, 2025, this year's theme, "Catholic Schools: United in Faith and Community," aligns perfectly with Saint Augustine's mission of providing a rigorous education, spiritual development, and moral integrity. With a comprehensive curriculum and a nurturing environment, the school ensures that students graduate prepared for success in high school, college, and beyond.  To welcome prospective families, Saint Augustine will host a daily Open House from January 26 to 31, running from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Families are invited to tour the school, meet faculty and staff, and learn why Saint Augustine is a unique and impactful choice for their child's education.

Saint Augustine Catholic School stands out as a historical and cultural beacon in Washington, D.C. Founded in 1858 by African-American Catholics, Saint Augustine is the second-oldest Catholic parochial school in the Archdiocese of Washington and the first Catholic school established to educate African American children in the District. For 167 years, Saint Augustine Catholic Church and School has been a cornerstone of community empowerment and academic achievement. Known as the "Mother Church of Black Catholics" in the Nation's Capital, Saint Augustine Catholic Church provided leadership and hope to a community, many of whom experienced firsthand the ravages of slavery several years before the Civil War and the implementation of the Emancipation Proclamation. Rooted in their extraordinary faith and passionate commitment to Catholic education, Black Catholics in Washington, D.C., forged ahead to carve out a sure pathway to opportunity and justice.

"From its inception, Saint Augustine has been rooted in the belief that education is vital to the growth and empowerment of our community," said Father Patrick Smith, Pastor of Saint Augustine Parish.

Today, Saint Augustine Catholic School welcomes students from various backgrounds, nationalities and cultures, serving Pre-K3 through Eighth Grade children.

"Our mission is to educate the whole child—intellectually, spiritually, and morally," said Dr. Anika Logan, Principal of Saint Augustine Catholic School. "We are deeply committed to fostering leaders who will make meaningful contributions to their communities and the world."
