Freddie Freeman Named Hickok Belt(R) Award Winner for October 2024

ROCHESTER, N.Y. - Nov. 14, 2024 - PRLog -- Freddie Freeman, 35-year-old first baseman for the Los Angeles Dodgers, has been named the Hickok Belt(R) Award winner for the month of October 2024.  Voting was conducted by a select panel of members of the National Sports Media Association (NSMA). The voters selected Freeman on his high-level performance at the plate during the 2024 World Series against the New York Yankees. The popular slugger put the Dodgers on top in Game 1 of the Series when he hit a walk-off grand slam, the first in a Series game. He broke records by becoming the first MLB player in sports history to homer in the first four games of the Series. Freeman's 12 RBI in the 2024 Series set a Los Angeles Dodgers franchise record, culminating with his team winning the Series in five games. Freddie Freeman went on to win the World Series MVP award, named in honor of Willie Mays, for his dominant performance in leading the Dodgers winning the Series championship.

Other finalists for the month of October in order of how the NSMA ranked ranked them were: Ruth Chepngetich (running), Bakhtram Murtazaliev (boxing), Kiril Kiprisov (hockey), Nikola Jokic (basketball), Giannia Antetokounmpo (basketball), Coco Gauff (tennis), Charles Leclerc (auto racing), Carlos Alcaraz (tennis) and Frederik Andersen (hockey).

Freemans' selection as the Hickok Belt(R) winner for the month of October recognizes him as "the best of the best" in professional sports for the month, and makes him the ninth candidate eligible to receive the 2024 overall award, joining Shohei Ohtani, Katie Ledecky, Simone Biles, Luka Doncic, Scottie Scheffler, Mikaela Shiffrin, Patrick Mahomes, Jannik Sinner and other finalsts throughout the year based on NSMA voting.
