HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - Oct. 23, 2024 - PRLog -- Over 650 Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) members from across the nation gathered in Grant, Alabama, to commemorate the 100th Dedication Day of Kate Duncan Smith DAR School. The California State Society of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution (CSSDAR) made a significant presence, with members arriving on campus in a historic procession that included horseback riders, a law enforcement escort, and vintage Ford Model T's.

The festivities kicked off with a Welcome Reception on Wednesday evening, featuring a video message from Alabama Governor Kay Ivey, a captivating performance by the Sutphin Family Cloggers, and a special appearance by Kate Duncan Smith herself.

Throughout the four-day event, guests participated in a variety of activities, including campus tours, community service projects, reading to elementary students, gardening, museum visits, and enjoying a 1920s-themed gala. United States Congressman Robert Aderholt honored the school with a flag flown over the U.S. Capitol and a commendation recognizing its 100th Anniversary in the Congressional Record.

The highlight of the celebration was the traditional Dedication Day Program on Friday, October 4. Thirty states and organizations dedicated gifts to the school, and a special program showcased the school's history through the eyes of its students. State Senator Wes Kitchens and State Representative Jeana Ross were in attendance for the ceremony.

A dedication ceremony was also held for the KDS 100th Anniversary Project, a $400,000 initiative funded by generous donors. A special group of donors, the 'Committee of 100,' contributed $100,000 to the school's endowment fund, ensuring its continued success. California State Regent Christina Ramos and her members added to the Anniversary project with over $28,000 in gifts.
