Follow on Google News | Gooch Receives 'Champion of Georgia's Cities' AwardDuring the 2023 legislative session, Gooch, who also serves as the Senate Majority Leader, was the leading voice in the General Assembly about the danger of increasing the weight of trucks on city streets throughout Georgia, and in particular, he raised concerns about the damages of higher weight trucks on existing transportation infrastructure. After pared down legislation was passed, Leader Gooch championed the need for the state to include additional funding for local roads in the amended state budget during the 2024 session. In addition, Leader Gooch worked closely with GMA to ensure that other legislative proposals did not adversely affect the ability of cities to provide appropriate services to their communities. "Leader Gooch is a true champion of Georgia cities, and he has been a constant voice for protecting the interests of city residents and the authority of city officials," said GMA CEO & Executive Director Larry Hanson. "Having been a local government official, he appreciates the role of local government in responding to the needs of their residents, and in all his work, he always keeps in mind the best interest of Georgia residents." Based in Atlanta, GMA is a voluntary, non-profit organization that provides legislative advocacy, educational, employee benefit and consulting services to its 536 member cities.
