Follow on Google News | Philly's African American Genealogy Group Celebrates 35 Years Preserving Black HeritageAAGG was co-founded in 1989 by Carolyn C. Williams, a N.J. native and its first president, the late John Logan and Stan Arnold, PhD. Williams, also the current president, is proud of the organization's accomplishments and evolution. It burnished its reputation by training hundreds of genealogists, under successive executive boards. AAGG was uniquely positioned to do more, after members navigated the complex history of enslaved and free Africans. It formed partnerships with historical and academic institutions in Philadelphia's metropolitan area, including Eden Cemetery and Cliveden of the National Trust. Project research efforts, often funded by grants, focus on using genealogy and microhistory to uncover legacies and to achieve restorative justice for Black individuals, families and communities. Officers and members are eager to welcome guests to the celebration that will also feature a buffet luncheon, awards ceremony, and acknowledgments. Individual tickets for $70 and a table of ten tickets for $700 are available now through October 27.
