Follow on Google News | 80+ Campus Leaders Plot In Secret Over Their Jewish ProblemBizarre - No Prior Announcement, Press Barred From Secret Meeting
But in a bizarre and troubling departure from what universities traditionally preach and stand for - free and open discussion of controversial issues in which all viewpoints can be presented and discussed - leaders who are supposed to lead by example plotted in complete secrecy, with no prior announcement of this extraordinary convocation, and with all media (even those likely to be supportive) barred not only from the meeting, but apparently unable even to interview participants in real time, says public interest law professor John Banzhaf. Ironically, one of the topics discussed was "free speech imperatives," It appears that there will be no public announcement of precisely what was discussed, much less if there was any consensus of opinion much less agreements as to how to move forward. For example, did the university leaders agree that it was not appropriate to negotiate for peace on campus with those engaging in criminal acts to further their cause, whether there was support for the growing consensus that neither universities not their presidents should issue statements on issues not directly related to their own functioning (including about international conflicts, etc.), whether students who have been convicted of crimes - especially those involving violence and other forms of illegal harassment - should be permitted on campus, etc. The need for such unprecedented secrecy in discussing general policies for maintaining order and free expression on campuses suggest that many if not most university presidents are afraid and under great pressure, not only from student and outside agitators who have repeatedly engaged in criminal acts to further their cause, but also from faculty who have openly supported Hamas, alumni who want their alma maters to enforce rules and crack down on open illegal activities, and many congressional leaders who are fed up with what these presidents have been doing and not doing, says Banzhaf. Judging from some of the statements coming out of the meeting, it is also not clear that different competing views were even represented at this historic meeting, much less listened to, says Banzhaf. http://banzhaf.net/ End
