Follow on Google News | The Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC) Appoints DeMark Liggins as President/CEOBy: Southern Christian Leadership Conference Before transitioning to Chief of Staff, Liggins served the SCLC as Chief Financial Officer. He was named National Vice President during the 64th SCLC Convention in 2023. "I find myself humbled and excited about being named the President/CEO of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference. As the new leader of this historic organization, my vision for the company rests on the SCLC's Legacy, Leadership, and Love. These pillars of our brand will guide the direction of my presidency," As one of the youngest presidents of the organization, Liggins's front-facing initiatives include educating and galvanizing Gen Z and millennials to vote in coming elections, identifying and creating plans of action for under-resourced communities, and pushing for criminal justice reform. DeMark Liggins, a married father of 3, is a graduate of Alabama State University, and a Life Member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., initiated at the Beta Zeta chapter, the same chapter as the 2nd SCLC President Rev. Ralph D. Abernathy. The SCLC is a civil rights organization founded in 1957 by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., who served at the forefront of the nonviolent movement directly impacting the Voting Rights Act of 1965. Spawning from the momentum of the Montgomery Bus Boycott, the SCLC has been a leader in voting and civil rights advocacy in the decades since its inception.
