By: INTELLECTUAL DIGITAL SOLUTIONS In order to be able to afford a small 2BR Brooklyn apartment, a fiercely artistic woman decides to cohabitate with one seemingly harmless but secretly crazy roommate after the next and finds herself in some bizarre boundary-pushing experiences, forcing her to question her own norms and the human psyche. Beautiful and Neat Room is inspired by my observations since moving to NYC in 2003, especially during the last eight years and since living in my current Brooklyn 2-bedroom apartment. Close friends of mine have often been in the known about the very diverse people I have come across as roommates, and the odd, sometimes nerve-wracking experiences I have had to endure in order to afford a life as an artist. But for me sharing the high rent was the most strategic way to be able to make ends meet, as opposed to taking up one more part-time job and become bitter and miserable. Cohabitating with a stranger seemed the lesser of two evils. ABOUT The feature film Beautiful and Neat Room is structured into six episodes, with artist Marie as the main protagonist who gets to live with different people. Each of the characters, who move in (on a short-term basis) create a new dynamic and conflict. Trust, respect, personal boundaries and privacy are challenged. Marie has to put up with a lot, but eventually comes to a breaking point. Maria Petschnig is an award-winning Brooklyn based filmmaker, who has a unique story to tell. She has first-hand experience in having lived with 50+ roommates over the span of 20 years in NYC. WHY CONTRIBUTE? Empathic storytelling is now more important than ever. Nuanced, female driven films are in high demand. And this one has plenty of oddball moments in store as well! Our goal is for distribution to include a theatrical run, and/ or exclusive streaming with a platform like Hulu or MUBI.
