Follow on Google News | Chance Hayden Releases "Baritone Gold" On Peace House Music, June 21Original Songs Capture the Essence of '60s Soul, Surf Rock and Instrumental Film Scores
By: Peace House Music The first single and video, "Bank On Me," featuring vocalist Sean Holmes, released May 31, is a go-for-broke love letter drawing inspiration from mid-tempo '60s soul shuffles, with precise and emotional vocals, crisp horns and bluesy lead work from Hayden. Additional tracks are "Clean Break," a groovy, surf rock instrumental. "Carolina Summers" a New Orleans second line inspired song that leads into expressive guitar and organ solos. "One Last Rose," a cinematic landscape with percussive rhythms from Argentina and Cuba that also suggests spaghetti westerns. A growling riff-rock instrumental like a hot rod race describes "Desert Drag." "Doing The Splits" is a laid back '60s Memphis soul inspired groove, with a bluesy organ melody. The other vocal track on the album is "Don't You Wanna Give Me A Call," featuring Dante Zapata. This jazz-blues shuffle swings hard from the first note. "Talkin' It Over," has a hard grooving funk feel reminiscent Bernard Purdie that shares chorus solos between the organ and guitar. "Open Back Cab" is an upbeat, minimalistic blues that splits the difference between '60s soul jazz and Mancini-esque chase scene noir. A moody, cinematic jazz-noir piece and haunting steel guitar describes "No Sign." Think late '60s in San Francisco and you get the feel for the in-your-face rockin' "Rhythm Queen." The last track "Sand Stars" is a breezy bolero with swaying steel accents depicting a cozy beach scene.
