Follow on Google News | Celt-tronic artist personifies the Earth Mother with new album, Mid-Atlantic tourAward-winning singer/songwriter Melissa Cox returns to Delaware Valley for homecoming Summer 2024 Tour
Born in Delaware and now a resident of New Zealand, Cox weaves an intricate sonic tapestry on this eight-track opus. Each note resonates with the Earth's primal emotions—rage, defiance, ecstasy, and hope. Through her music, she beckons the listener to listen, feel, and remember our shared responsibility as stewards of the Earth. The album includes reimagined classics like Tom Petty's "American Girl" and Loreena McKennitt's "The Mummer's Dance," while Cox's originals boldly address themes of white supremacy and climate change. "This isn't about politics or religion," Cox explains. "It's about our survival as a species. We have one planet. Air, water, and soil are not luxuries, they're necessities. We must rise above patriotism to solve this very real crisis we are facing." The 41-year-old songwriter took several years off from touring to raise her young son in New Zealand during the pandemic. Now, she's headed back to her homeland for a tour of the Mid-Atlantic, making stops in Pennsylvania, Delaware, Virginia, and Maryland. Using her looping pedal and an array of effects, she creates in real time an ethereal sonic experience filled with lush synths, whistles, piano, EDM beats, and electrified mandolin. "One of my fans said to me that my music sounds like what the elves would play at their rave," she smiles. Cox was voted Best Celtic Fusion singer by Celtic MP3 Music Magazine, and Best Folk Artist by the Delaware Division of the Arts. The former frontwoman of the Celtic Fusion band Mythica, Cox has opened for the Spin Doctors, Sister Hazel, Three Dog Night, and Cyril Neville, Celtic Crossroads, Enter the Haggis, and the Young Dubliners. 2024 Tour Dates
