Atlanta-based artist, Sylvia Camille, also known as Sylvia Camille McLendon Pierce, will be one of the three artists performing at the 10th Anniversary of the Reburial Commemoration for Vietnam Hero, Sp5 Wyley Wright Jr. and his late wife, Ouida Fay Wright. When Sp5 Wyley Wright Jr., an Honor Guard for Secretary of Defense Robert S. McNamara, passed away after a helicopter crash during the Vietnam War, he was buried in a segregated cemetery for over 50 years in Jacksonville, Florida. To correct the wrong made so long ago, the Wright family chose to rebury him and his widow, Ouida Fay Wright, who was buried in Columbus, Georgia, in Arlington National Cemetery in 2014, honoring the service and dedication Sp5 Wyley Wright Jr. had for his country. Sylvia Camille, who is the niece of Sp5 Wyley Wright Jr. and Ouida Fay Wright, is performing at the event in honor of her aunt, uncle, and late father, Alex Zack McLendon. The late U.S. Army Veteran Alex Zack McLendon is the brother of Ouida Fay Wright. Although Camille never got to meet her "Aunt Fay" and Uncle Wyley, she knows her family through her cousins, Jackie, Joe, Stanley and Phyllis. She will be honoring her father through her performance because she believes her father would have been there if he were alive. "Some people might say why is [the Wright family] doing this, but it is historical," Sylvia Camille began her singing journey at the age of 10. Camille graduated from Morris Brown College in Atlanta, Georgia in 1993. She served as an educator for 30 years. She also has performed in numerous plays and movies, including Georgia's own, Montgomery- the Musical. Camille hosts a weekly Youtube talk show, called "Saturday Night Live with Sylvia Camille," where she interviews artists on their journeys they are pursing in life. She currently attends Flipper Temple A.M.E in Atlanta, Georgia. She will be performing the songs, "To God Be The Glory," and "The Lord's Prayer." She believes this event symbolizes the goodness of God and what her aunt and uncle did for her family.
