A long-time member of the Allen Toussaint Orchestra, he was musical director from 1974-1983 of RCA recording artists Chocolate Milk, with whom he recorded 8 albums. New Orleans born and bred, Smith has long been a radio personality on the legendary WWOZ, where his radio show featured the contemporary jazz that he loves and now sings professionally.
