The Artistic Solar Module for Architecture

TAOYUAN, Taiwan - Jan. 16, 2024 - PRLog -- As the threat of global warming intensifies, traditional reinforced concrete (RC) buildings and wooden decorations not only consume a lot of energy and resources, but also cause irreversible damage to the environment.

Dr. Hung-Chih Lu, who is engaged in multi-disciplinary public welfare creations, proposed an innovative design in 2017 and successively applied for two Taiwan patents (colored solar architecture structures and solar wire layout structures for architecture). He combined the artistic design of optical film with solar to develop the artistic solar module for architecture, as shown in Figure 1.

This module has the following features:

Coloring: By using optical film, various colors and patterns can be realized, such as marble and wood grain, which can save building materials and costs, and at the same time be friendly to the environment.

Modularity: By using a special optical film pattern design, a single-specification module unit can allow the colors and patterns to be seamlessly spliced with adjacent modules to form a large-area continuous pattern wall. Moreover, not only can the same direction, but even the reverse splicing can achieve continuous patterns, which improves the appearance and convenience, and also adapts to the future AI robot construction.

Solar: By using the transmittance of optical film, each module can maintain a relatively high photoelectric conversion rate, which can supply the electricity needs of the building, realizing the self-sufficiency and carbon reduction of the building.

Surface fogging: The fogged optical film can not only reduce the reflection of photovoltaic panels, reduce glare, but also increase light absorption, and maintain high conversion efficiency.

Dr. Lu not only developed the artistic solar module for architecture, but also applied them to architecture and interior design, as shown in Figure 2. It shows its innovative and practical effects:

The outer side of the west-facing wall is a continuous seamless marble pattern. The same the artistic solar module for architecture unit is used to create a noble and elegant marble wall, which forms a sharp contrast with the surrounding buildings.

The inner side of the west-facing wall is a continuous seamless wood grain. It presents a warm and natural wood grain pattern, which is in harmony with the interior decoration.

Modular assembly, the outdoor marble wall and the indoor wood grain wall are both from the same the artistic solar module for architecture unit. No additional decoration is required, and they are presented in marble and wood grain, respectively, forming a unique aesthetic.

It supports curtain structures such as clear frame, hidden frame, and point-supported. The wiring layout can be made more concise and safe through forward and reverse splicing.
