Kanchipuram govt. school teachers get STEM training

CHENNAI, India - Nov. 29, 2023 - PRLog -- With an objective of enhancing the quality of education in government schools, Smile Foundation facilitated STEM training to 60 high school teachers specializing in Mathematics and Science from 14 government schools of Sriperumbudur and Kundrathur blocks in Kanchipuram district of Tamil Nadu.

The workshop, focused on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education, aimed to equip teachers with the skills necessary for effective STEM teaching-learning. This effort is a vital component of the 'Improving Quality of Education in Government Schools through promotion of STEM' project, a collaborative endeavour between Smile Foundation and the Department of School Education, Govt. of Tamil Nadu, supported by Sun TV.

The two-day workshop featured specialized training sessions for high school Mathematics and Science teachers. The module included practical insights into STEM Teaching-Learning methodologies, classroom management strategies, and pedagogical approaches tailored to STEM subjects.

Participants were introduced to the utilization of STEM models, innovative classroom management techniques, and the integration of experiential Science and Maths teaching methods. The training aimed to foster an interactive, inquisitive, cognitive, and problem-solving temperament in students, creating a conducive environment for effective learning.

Notably, Smile Foundation, in collaboration with SUN TV Network Limited, has installed 14 STEM labs in the participating schools, providing students with hands-on experiences in STEM education.

The programme received substantial guidance and support from the District Basic Education Department and the Chief Education Officer, ensuring the success of the collaborative learning initiative. Mrs. V. Vetriselvi, Chief Education Officer, Kanchipuram, praised the efforts of SUN TV Network Limited and Smile Foundation in implementing educational initiatives in government schools. She emphasized the significance of digital classroom management, STEM-based teaching-learning, and the establishment of stability in various educational activities.

Chief Education Officer, Mrs. V. Vetriselvi expressed confidence that the programme would empower teachers to implement innovative methods, fostering greater interest and engagement among students.
