Sovereign Order awards Boys & Girls Clubs of Silicon Valley $37,500 grant

SAN JOSE, Calif. - Nov. 9, 2023 - PRLog -- Boys & Girls Clubs of Silicon Valley (BGCSV) is excited to announce it has been awarded a $37,500 grant from the Sovereign Order of St. John of Jerusalem, Knights Hospitaller (Sovereign Order) to support critical technology upgrades at the Christopher, Edenvale, and Stipe Clubhouse computer labs through the purchase of new Chromebooks.

"With the Sovereign Order's support, we can now ensure the highest quality delivery of the STEM components for our C5: 21st Century Learning Initiative—a suite of STEM, literacy, college and career readiness programs," said BGCSV President & CEO Steve Wymer. "One of our core priorities is to empower youth to create the future through technology and through this grant, we can make that a reality."

Each Club provides members with hands-on, creative STEM programming, and gives them more access to tech programs unavailable to them outside of the Club. This sparks an interest in science, technology, engineering, and math. With upgraded computer equipment for these clubhouses, youth will continue to be inspired and discover new passions on their path to a Great Future. Upgrading the technology centers at these three Clubhouses will help deliver the STEM components of its C5 initiative to under-served youth, ages 5-18, to improve schoolyear and summer programs; take advantage of new group learning technology; and reduce the digital divide within its membership, thus improving members' chances of graduating from high school, moving on to post-secondary education and discovering a career. It will also significantly improve outcomes for the core technology programming.

Through this grant, it is our hope that BGCSV can support effective, evidence-based educational strategies that close the achievement gap and enable students to meet California's challenging academic standards."
