Follow on Google News | Las Vegas Urban League WIC Counselors Available During October's Pregnancy And Child-LossBy: Nutrition Education Centers - WIC October is National Pregnancy and Infant Loss Month. The loss of a child is devastating and leaves families with a profound sense of grief and emptiness. "There are many causes of infant death," Norita Glispie, Las Vegas Urban League Women, Infants and Children Nutrition Clinic Coordinator, said. "These could include birth defects, illness, sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS), neonatal death, molar pregnancy, ectopic pregnancy or accidents. If you, or someone you know, has experienced the loss of a child, please reach out to us at WIC for emotional support, a listening ear and valuable information to help navigate through this difficult grief." Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month provides an excellent opportunity for Southern Nevadans to acknowledge the pain of a parent who lost a child, open communication channels for parents to seek help and create community support groups to help grieving parents cope with their sorrow. "If a friend or family member experienced a baby loss, reach out and let them know you are thinking about them," Glispie said. "Dealing with the loss of a child is hard, but knowing you are not alone and that others are available to help is a great comfort." For parents seeking more information or help in dealing with a baby loss, please reach out to counselors at Las Vegas Urban League WIC's two locations: 6480 W. Flamingo Road, Suite B, Las Vegas, phone (702) 227-1573 or 3320 E. Flamingo Road, Suite 50, Las Vegas, phone (702) 476-9561. The Las Vegas Urban League Women, Infants and Children Program is a 501c (3) program that is funded by the Nevada Department of Health and Human Services Division of Public Health.
