NEW YORK - Sept. 24, 2023 - PRLog -- St. Francis of Assisi was born in the 12th century, lived in Italy, and he is remembered for his generosity to the poor, his willingness to minister to the lepers, and for his love for animals and nature. He is the Catholic Church's patron saint of animals and the environment.

This year you can make it a special time for the animals at your local shelter or place of worship. September and October are the ideal time for you to plan this annual activity. During our Animal World USA Week for the Animals annual celebrations, we work every opportunity available on the Blessings with faith leaders, pastors, places of worship, rescue groups and animal shelters to bring the animals love, concern and support first demonstrated with St. Francis of Assisi

It builds relationships across the community and all ages. It supports not only the animals but those that care for the animals on a daily basis.

During our Weeks' celebrations, we collectively organize and plan with community leaders to build a network of support and love for the Blessing of the Animals that will inspire and last a lifetime. Not to mention, if you work with your local shelter, pet adoptions will increase as a result.

Consider donating pet food, toys, leashes, newspapers, treats, gently used blankets and towels to the local animal shelter around this time of the year. The Feast of St. Francis of Assisi also provides an opportunity to teach children about homeless or abused animals and what we can all do to help.

A Blessing of Animals witnesses to God's and the Church's love, care, and concern for creation. As we recognize our mutual interdependence with God's creatures, the Church's witness of stewardship of creation is strengthened.
