Receives Grant from 100 Women Who Care Beaufort for $14600By: Born to Read Born To Read's trained volunteers visit new parents in the birthing centers at Beaufort Memorial Hospital, Hilton Head Hospital and Coastal Carolina Hospital and bring new parents a gift bag containing three books for the baby, a shirt and other informational items. While visiting, volunteers advise parents of the importance of reading daily and talking with their babies starting at birth. Children's academic successes at ages 9 and 10 can be attributed to the amount of talk they hear from birth through age 3.
