SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Sept. 10, 2023 - PRLog -- CALIFORNIA: Monday 9:11 event

We the autistic scientists strongly oppose Senate Bill 805 (https://leginfo.legislature.ca.gov/faces/billHistoryClient.xhtml?bill_id=202320240SB805). Our opposition is publicly posted (https://groups.google.com/g/votehenny/c/g9BN-Y-pcSU), and marked as received.

The bill language without amendments conflicts with the current Business and Professions Code, potentially dilutes established standards, and fails to address the needs of other conditions beyond autism.

The bill appears to allow professionals from unrelated fields, such as 'surgeons,' to become BHT providers without federally-regulated mental health licensure

The lack of standardization in this regard can lead to a deterioration in the quality of services and increased risks for abuse.

When caregivers were interviewed about 'why' they quit ABA, the majority indicated that they recognize worsening injurious behavior onset after ABA therapy commenced.

This deviation from established standards raises concerns about the quality of care provided to vulnerable populations.

We believe that a more comprehensive and evidence-based approach is necessary to ensure the highest quality of care for all individuals with behavioral health needs.

To allow a Regional Center to vendor a co-occurring professional license is to dilute the national standards for BHT providers as well as to allow state funds to support these new unlicensed vendors.

We firmly believe that maintaining high standards for behavioral health professionals is crucial to ensure the safety and well-being of consumers.

We urge you to reconsider Senate Bill 805 and take into account the concerns raised by the autistic community.

It is essential to prioritize the well-being and quality of care for all individuals with behavioral health needs.
