Mucormycosis and Fungal Exposure Risks Discussed in New Online Video

PHOENIX - July 23, 2023 - PRLog -- The IAQ Video Network and Cochrane & Associates announced the release of their latest educational video today. Their newest production discusses the fungal infection known as mucormycosis which is caused by a group of molds called mucormycetes.

"Mucor species and Rhizopus species are some of the most common causes of mucormycosis, but there are also other types of fungi that can be responsible," said Paul Cochrane, President of Cochrane & Associates and the IAQ Video Network. "These fungi live in soil and decaying organic matter. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports that while most cases of mucormycosis are sporadic, outbreaks have occurred. The agency recommends at-risk people avoid direct contact with water-damaged buildings after a natural disaster, avoid areas with a lot of dust like at construction or excavation sites, and avoid activities that involve close contact with soil or dust. We hope this new video helps to shed some light on mucormycosis and protecting vulnerable populations."
