The Unaccompanied Minor Policy of American Airlines provide parents and legal guardians peace of mind by letting them know that their children would be given individualized attention and committed care throughout their journey. Aged 5 to 14 children's who travel alone are subject to certain safety and security requirements, that's why AA policy states to fill American Airlines unaccompanied minor form before booking a ticket & boarding.

American Airlines Unaccompanied Minor Service & Policy

1. Age Restrictions:
Children 5 to 14 years old who travel alone and are not accompanied by an adult who is at least 18 years old are subject to the UMNR Policy.

2. Booking Process: Parents or guardians must notify American Airlines that their youngster will be traveling alone during the booking process. Services provided to unaccompanied minors may incur additional costs.

3. Escort Service:  American Airlines provides a dedicated escort service, your child will receive assistance from knowledgeable airline staff from check-in to the destination.

4. Boarding and Deplaning: To ensure a safe and monitored exit, UMC is always among the last passengers to board and are always among the last to disembark after landing.

5. In-journey Assistance: Flight attendants will provide additional care and attention throughout the journey. This includes helping with meals and any required bathroom visits.

6. Connecting Flights: American Airlines offers proper planning and support during layovers for itineraries involving connecting flights. UMs will always be watched over and guided between gates.

7. Communication: To make sure they are aware of any delays or changes, parents or legal guardians will receive regular updates regarding the child's travel status.

8. Identification: To enable airline workers to quickly identify and help unaccompanied children, all UMs will don distinctive wristbands that indicate their status as such.

What is the fee for unaccompanied minor on American Airlines?

American Airlines charge $150 (plus tax, where applicable) each way even though this amount is charged extra rather than actual price of American Airlines flight tickets. Benefits with this is, if there are two or more siblings the unaccompanied minor service fee you pay is for one only.
