The Public Law Center Recognizes Snell & Wilmer With Pro Bono Law Firm of the Year Award
By: Snell & Wilmer
Sean Sherlock, PLC Board of Directors member and co-chair of the firm's Pro Bono Committee said, "At Snell & Wilmer we are committed to contributing our legal experience on a pro bono basis where it is needed most, and appreciate the PLC for providing legal services to those in need in our community."
Snell & Wilmer, which has a long-standing relationship with PLC, will be recognized for significant pro bono contributions in 2022, including support with immigration, veterans, consumer, and nonprofit pro bono cases, as well as volunteering time at the PLC's Bankruptcy clinic. In a communication about the upcoming event, PLC highlighted one case in particular, where the firm's pro bono volunteers worked on a difficult elder justice case in which an elderly, Spanish-speaking client had been deceived into signing over the title to her home to a family member, after he had moved himself and his family into her home under the guise of helping her. With the help of Snell & Wilmer's legal team, she successfully filed suit to reverse the transfer of title days before the statute of limitations was set to expire. After drafting and filing documents, negotiating with opposing counsel, appearing in court, and maintaining constant contact with the client, the Snell & Wilmer team succeeded in ejecting all the adverse parties from the home, transferring the title back into the client's name, and receiving a settlement which allowed her time to find new, reliable tenants and remain in her home.
The PLC previously honored Snell & Wilmer's Orange County office with the Law Firm of the Year Title in 2012 and 1992, and Sean as Attorney of the Year in 2019.
