Local SIERRA CLUB Explores 'New Discoveries from the Lake Worth Lagoon' on June 15

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - May 21, 2023 - PRLog -- (Palm Beach County, FL – May 19, 2023) The Loxahatchee Group of the Sierra Club Florida Chapter is inviting the public to a general meeting on Thursday, June 15 at the Lantana Road Branch Library, 4020 Lantana Road in Lake Worth.

The topic for this event is New Discoveries from the Lake Worth Lagoon and the guest speaker is Lake Worth Waterkeeper Reinaldo Diaz, who is also a City of Lake Worth Beach commissioner, board member of both the Everglades Coalition and the Florida Wildlife Federation, and he serves on the steering committee of the Lake Worth Lagoon Initiative. In addition, he is Palm Beach County Coordinator for the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission's Horseshoe Crab Watch program.

As the Lake Worth Waterkeeper—an organization of community-based advocates dedicated to defending, enforcing, and promoting just and equitable clean water laws—Diaz advocates for the Lake Worth Lagoon and its watershed through research, education, and legal advocacy.

At this general meeting of the Sierra Club Loxahatchee Group, Diaz will explain how wildlife tagging is an important tool for population assessments and can also be used to protect areas from development. He will also discuss the novel behavior now being exhibited by local horseshoe crabs, and his adventures in making this discovery.

Scheduled for Thursday, June 15, at the Lantana Road Branch Library, this informative event will start with a meet-and-greet and light refreshments at 6:30 pm, with the program running from 7 to 8 pm. To register in advance, please visit:
