National Elder Law Month raises awareness about legal issues affecting older adults and encourages people to plan ahead. It recognizes the important work of elder law attorneys and was established by the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys ("NAELA") in 2002 and is observed every May. During this month, elder law attorneys often offer educational events/programs to help seniors and their families understand their legal rights. The goal is to empower older adults to make informed decisions about their health care, finances, and other important matters as they age. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, about 10,000 Americans turn 65 years old daily. This is expected to continue until around 2030 due to the aging of the baby boomer generation (born between 1946 and 1964). As a result of this demographic shift, there is an increasing demand for legal services that focus on the unique needs and challenges of older adults.
