Better Together, West Haven Baptist Church to host Feb. 16 community job and resource fair

KANSAS CITY, Kan. - Feb. 13, 2023 - PRLog -- Better Together and West Haven Baptist Church are partnering to host a community job fair for Tonganoxie-area residents from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 16.

The church-based job fair not only connects job seekers with local employers who are ready to hire, but also provides resources to facilitate stronger connections and more hires. Free one-on-one job coaching sessions are available to job seekers to review resumes and interviewing skills, and additional services will be available onsite. The Salvation Army, Catholic Charities of Northeast Kansas and Insight Women's Center will be available as well.

More than 20 employers are participating, including Amazon, FedEx Ground, UPS, Hamm Companies, Academy Bank, AbleLight, the City of Tonganoxie, Prime Healthcare, First State Bank & Trust, Big O Tires, FIRSTstudent, Mid Star Lab, Tonganoxie USD 464, Financial Strategies Inc., Besel's Home Improvement, Young Sign Company, Westlake Ace Hardware, La Petite Academy, Accessibility Remodeling LLC, Hill's Pet Nutrition and Geiger Ready Mix.

The community job fair is part of Better Together's "Better Jobs" program, which has helped 34,000 applicants connect with employment opportunities across 21 states. At job fairs hosted by Better Together, two-thirds of attendees get a job interview, and 1 in 4 receive a job offer on the spot. Some 60% find work within six weeks.

"The community is stepping up to create opportunities and restore hope for those in need of employment," said Megan Rose, CEO of Better Together. "This is not your typical job fair. Job seekers can come as they are, no suits required. Encouraging volunteers can help with resumes. We know the challenges that many face when they are seeking employment and are ready with solutions."
