Climate Institute Signs Agreement with Swiss-Based 2000-Watt Smart Cities Association to Promote New Climate Change Programs in the United States

WASHINGTON - Feb. 6, 2023 - PRLog -- Climate Institute Signs Agreement with Swiss-Based 2000-Watt Smart Cities Association to Promote New Climate Change Programs in the United States

Washington, D.C. – February 6, 2023 –
The Climate Institute and Swiss-Based 2000-Watt Smart

Cities Association (2000WSCA) executed an agreement whereby the Climate Institute will assist 2000WSCA in developing new climate change mitigation and carbon emission improvement programs in the United States.

Both 2000WSCA and the Climate Institute share a common vision about the need to address today's formidable global climate challenges and take all possible actions to 'save the planet'. Both organizations also have a remarkable track record of embracing technological innovations and creating policy initiatives to foster positive environmental improvements throughout the globe.

The 2000WSCA program has an impressive track record globally. In Switzerland 46 local communities have implemented the Swiss "Smart City" program and received a certification. To be certified as 2000-Watt Smart City, the community must exploit at least 50% of its

sustainability potential in each of the six subject areas over the coming 12 years: Smart Energy; Smart Mobility; Smart Buildings; Smart Governance, Smart Food Production & Tech Centers and Smart Centrality.  Meeting this threshold, communities are on track to reduce the greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) emissions due to city development activities and operations by 100% by 2050 and fulfil the relevant SDGs (sustainable development goals) and ESGs (environmental, social and governance).

To meet this aggressive target, 2000WSCA provides proven methodologies, a certification program and a structured toolkit to work with communities, corporations, cities and state governments. The program objectives are to create optimized and smart technological and management solutions to confine the per capita primary energy consumption through combustible fossil fuel to 2000 Watts and GHG emission to one ton per person by 2035.

"Working with the Swiss WSCA2000 smart cities team, we look forward to introducing their innovative methodologies, tools and certification process to help U.S. entities address today's climate change issues," said Nasir Khattak, Vice President of the Climate Institute and a member of the Board of Directors. "Today, 4 out of 5 global corporations report on sustainability issues - we believe our new initiative can make a substantive contribution helping address today's climate change and sustainability challenges," said Khattak.

A new WSCA2000 Program Management Group is now established in the Climate Institute HQ office to manage U.S. program activities. The Program office will be supported by TechNano Development Group, a division of TechNano Corporation. TechNano is developing new global renewable energy solutions in areas of graphene-based material sciences, next generation battery technology, smart city mobility solutions, robotics, autonomous vehicles, sensors, erickshaws, e-buses and other applications.

"We look forward to collaborating with the U.S. based Climate Institute to achieve our common goal to save our planet through a systematic program with a proven track record," said Andreas Binkert, Ambassador and President of 2000WSCA. "Carbon emission improvement is particularly important in the United States – still one of the largest emitters of Carbon worldwide. The 2000-Watt Philosophy is unique in its approach: We do not certify buildings – we certify communities!" said Binkert

Madhav Bhagwat, Founding Partner and CEO of 2000WSCA India, emphasizes "2000WSC is the tested methodology for democratic systems to mitigate climate change: creating happier, healthier and peaceful communities"

About Climate Institute

The Climate Institute was founded in 1986 with a mission to discover and implement climate solutions by advancing research, sharing information, and collaborating with U.S. and international partners. The Institute has been instrumental in fostering collaboration between developing countries and wealthier nations, launching pioneering initiatives environmental refugees, and transforming the energy infrastructure of small island states. Representative projects include moving climate protection onto the international agenda (1986-1992); helping lay the groundwork for the Framework Convention on Climate Change (1986-1992); catalyzing Climate Protection Efforts in Asia (1989-1995); helping spark a "Cities for Climate Protection" effort (1991-2001); empowering island nations and vulnerable peoples to lead in climate protection (1991-present); promoting win-win strategies and focus on short-lived climate forcers to avert highly disruptive climate change (2005-present); and catalyzing rapid

movement on climate protection in Mexico and launching the Crispin Tickell Interactive Climate Network. For more information visit: Climate.org

About 2000-Watt Smart Cities Association (2000WSCA)

The 2000-Watt Smart Cities Association (2000WSCA) is a not-for-profit agency, authorized by the Swiss Federal Office of Energy. The Swiss 2000 WSC project proposes a target of 2000 watts of energy usage per citizen be achieved by the year 2035. Today it is estimated that the annual energy usage per capita in the United States is 12,000 watts. 2000WSCA provides proven methodologies, certification program and a structured toolkit to work with communities, corporations, cities and state governments. The Swiss 2000-Watt Smart Cities Association focuses on three fundamental goals: People (society)-Enhance the quality of life and improve areas such as health, education, and work-life balance. Planet (environmental)- Optimize green factors like energy consumption, renewable energy, carbon reduction and green spaces; Profit (economic)-Raise the environmental and economic health of the city. Working with local partners, 2000WSCA assists in developing project and strategies which will typically be financed through multilateral agencies once local government shows strong commitment and support.
