NIKKO, Japan - Jan. 23, 2023 - PRLog -- On January 3, Tobu Railway began selling a mobile version of the NIKKO PASS (https://www.tobu.co.jp/en/ticket/nikko/all.html) to foreign tourists via Klook, an online travel agency. With this service, visitors simply show their smartphone screens to station staff. There is no need to present a paper ticket at designated locations, as was previously required.

Surrounded by unadulterated nature, designated as a UNESCO World heritage site, and prized for its soba, sake, kakigori (shaved ice), and yuba (tofu skim), Nikko, about two hours north of Tokyo's Tobu Asakusa Station, along the Tobu Nikko line, is worth the visit from a natural, cultural, historical, and culinary perspective.

There are two NIKKO PASS types: The NIKKO PASS "All Area" (valid for 4 days) and the NIKKO PASS "World Heritage Area" (valid for 2 days). Both provide round-trip transportation between Tobu Asakusa Station and Tobu Nikko Station. Both allow passholders to freely travel around the area by train or bus.

The NIKKO PASS All Area includes:
  • Round-trip transfer between Asakusa and Shimo-imaichi Station
  • Lake Chuzenji sightseeing cruise (mid-April to November 30 in operation, June 18 not in operation)
  • All Tobu Railway lines between Shimo-Imaichi, Tobu-Nikko and Shin-Fujiwara station
  • All Tobu Bus lines in Nikko
  • Nikko Edomura shuttle bus
  • Nikko-Kinugawa Onsen Bus
  • Hybrid bus (mid-April to November 30 in operation)

The NIKKO PASS World Heritage Area includes:
  • Round-trip transfer between Asakusa and Shimo-imaichi Station
  • All Tobu Railway lines between Shimo-Imaichi, Tobu-Nikko and Shin-Fujiwara stations

Sample Four-Day Itinerary

Day 1:
  • Depart from Tobu Asakusa Station via Limited Express Revaty to Kinugawa Onsen area
  • Arrive at Shimoimaichi Station
  • Sake brewery tour at Katayama Shuzo
  • Kinugawa River boat tour
  • Soak and relax in hot springs at Kinugawa Onsen
  • Stay at a hotel in Kinugawa Onsen area
Day 2:
  • Transfer to Nikko World Heritage area by train or bus
  • Nikko Toshogu shrine, Futarsan Jinja shrine, Rinnoji temple, Shinkyo bridge, Kammangafuchi abyss, Nikko Tamozawa Imperial Villa Memorial Park
  • Stay at a hotel in Nikko area
Day 3:
  • Travel to Oku-Nikko area by bus along the Irohazaka winding road
  • Stop by Kegon Falls
  • Take Lake Chuzenji Pleasure Boat Cruise with commentary. Disembark to visit British & Italian Embassy Villa Memorial Parks
  • Disembark a second time to visit Chuzenji temple
  • Soak and relax in Chuzenji area hot springs at your hotel
  • Stay at a hotel in Lake Chuzenji area
Day 4:
  • Explore the lovely village around Lake Chuzenji, and try some outdoor activities such as cycling, hiking, kayaking, and/or stand-up paddle boarding on the Lake.
  • Return to TOBU NIKKO station by Tobu bus
  • Take Limited Express Revaty back to Tobu Asakusa Station in Tokyo
