When: January 19 - February 18, 2023

Where: Schack Art Center, 2921 Hoyt Ave., Everett, WA

Since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, many were forced to leave their homes, and paintings are sent not only from Ukraine but also from Poland, Germany, Lithuania, Netherland and the United States. The art was delivered to the Schack Art Center, despite challenges with transportation due to bombing and limited electricity in Ukraine. These are also the conditions in which some Ukrainian artists currently work.

Local and temporarily relocated Ukrainian artists were also invited to participate. Some of them offer small workshops with a goal to teach the local community traditional Ukrainian crafts and help fundraise for humanitarian causes in Ukraine.

"Today, when Ukraine is devastated by the war, we want to show you how strong and talented Ukrainians artists are. Ukrainian culture was suppressed by the Russian Empire for centuries and our artists have so much to say and to show right now. We are inspired by the support and contributions from our local community. It's an honor to work with the Schack Art Center and share Ukrainian culture in this exhibition and we sincerely hope that Washingtonians will love it," said Viktoriia Nikitiuk, UAWS volunteer.

The opening reception for the exhibition will take place on January 19, 5-8pm and February 4, 2:30-6pm at the Schack Art Center in Everett. UAWS is inviting all community members to join for Ukrainian appetizers and traditional singers and bandurists. There will also be an opportunity to purchase small handmade crafts and souvenirs.

UAWS mission is to preserve Ukrainian heritage as is the link that unites our Ukrainian-American people throughout the Pacific Northwest and to promote interest in and knowledge of Ukraine. Our vision is to build a strong community by bringing together different generations of Ukrainian immigrants, their descendants and to promote Ukrainian culture in the Pacific Northwest through social, cultural, and educational programs that engage Ukrainians and Americans of all ages and backgrounds.
