Blue Heart Records announces special Floyd Dixon CD/3-DVD Deluxe Bundle reissue

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Jan. 6, 2023 - PRLog -- The newest addition to the HighJohn Records Reissue Series, curated and released by Blue Heart Records, is a time capsule of both musical excellence and historic significance. This deluxe bundle combines the CD and companion 3-DVD set, both entitled Time Brings About a Change: A Floyd Dixon Celebration, supplemented by a feature article written by Bill Dahl and presented in commemorative booklet format. The CD version was issued in 2006, but the DVD package didn't appear until 2013 (included are interviews with most of the surviving participants, artfully edited into the documentary). The DVD was nominated for a Blues Music Award in 2014. As a writer/piano player and vocalist, Dixon helped define the early West Coast and Jump Blues genre. During his heyday, he toured with Ray Charles, Jimmy Witherspoon, Ruth Brown and more.

Dahl's feature begins, "Few blues greats are granted an opportunity to commemorate their mammoth legacy one last time before they leave us, to perform their classic songs in front of an adoring throng and bask in the knowledge that their music meant a great deal to their legion of fans. Floyd Dixon was one of those precious few. Less than two months before cancer claimed him in 2006, the legendary pianist headlined a star-studded two-night tribute to his 60 year music career." That performance, under the musical direction of guitarist Kid Ramos and featuring keyboard masters Dixon, Henry Gray and Pinetop Perkins in addition to special guests Kim Wilson and Johnny Tucker, is preserved for the ages in this historic collection of audio and video from the event.
