LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Jan. 5, 2023 - PRLog -- Friday January 6, 2023, marks the  611th anniversary of St. Joan of Arc's birth and The Maid of Heaven Foundation , which operates the world's largest website about Joan of Arc, is celebrating her birthday with a special Birthday page to honor her that includes a very special quote about her by the recently departed Pope Benedict XVI.

"Dear brothers and sisters, the Name of Jesus, invoked by our saint up to the last moments of her earthly life, was like the breathing of her soul, like the beating of her heart, the center of her whole life. The "mystery of the charity of Joan of Arc," which so fascinated the poet Charles Peguy, is this total love of Jesus, and of her neighbor in Jesus and for Jesus. This saint understood that love embraces the whole reality of God and of man, of heaven and of earth, of the Church and of the world. Jesus was always in the first place during her whole life, according to her beautiful affirmation: "Serve God first!" Is what Pope Benedict said about St. Joan of Arc in a general audience he gave in 2011 where he greatly honored her for her selfless sacrifices for the good of all humankind.

Why is Saint Joan of Arc still beloved and remembered today by luminaries like Pope Benedict XVI?  For anyone unfamiliar with Joan of Arc's full history she lived for only nineteen years but the brilliance of her life has inspired people ever since resulting in more books and artwork dedicated to her than anyone else in history except Jesus Christ.  Joan was the youngest person in history at only seventeen to command the armies of a nation.  She won two of the greatest military victories in all of world history at the battles of Orleans and Patay.  Despite her military successes she was ultimately captured by her enemies and convicted of heresy in a rigged trial and burned at the stake where she died at a young nineteen years of age.  Throughout her life she maintained her great faith in God and was ultimately rewarded in 1920 when she was canonized a Saint by the same Church that had once condemned her to death by fire.
