Paul Rusesabagina's family, team celebrate the return of Brittney Griner today in San Antonio

SAN ANTONIO - Dec. 9, 2022 - PRLog -- Paul Rusesabagina's family and the #FreeRusesabagina team welcome and celebrate the return of Brittney Griner today in San Antonio and are grateful for the work of the Biden Administration in bringing home wrongful detainees.

Griner's family, her wife, and the entire WNBA family fought relentlessly for her return. Rusesabagina's team are grateful to the White House and everyone in the US administration who worked incredibly hard to bring Brittney home. They have worked with other hostage families over the past year and shared the joy when family members have returned.

The Rusesabagina team celebrates Brittney's return, but cannot forget about the other 60+ hostages and wrongfully detainees around the world. They strongly encourage President Biden and everyone in the administration to continue their work and fulfill their commitment to bring all American hostages and wrongful detainees home as soon as possible. Background
In late August of 2020, Paul Rusesabagina, the international human rights icon and US Presidential Medal of Freedom winner, who saved 1,268 people during the Rwandan Genocide was lured from his home in San Antonio, Texas and taken to Kigali, Rwanda where he was tortured, arrested and held in solitary confinement. Rusesabagina's story was told in the movie Hotel Rwanda and his autobiography, An Ordinary Man. He is a Belgian citizen and US legal permanent resident.

Paul Rusesabagina has now been in jail in Rwanda for more than two years. Rusesabagina was subjected to a sham trial which Human Rights Watch called emblematic of the Rwandan "government's overreach and manipulation of the justice system." Most of the world has decried the trial process and verdict as completely unfair, in that Mr. Rusesabagina's rights were trampled at every stage from his kidnapping and torture, through the trial itself. His family and human rights groups around the globe have called for his immediate release on humanitarian grounds.
