By: New Beginning Children's Homes
The Grand Prize Vehicle: This 1970 Camaro Z/28 is extremely rare. Only 8,733 were produced and it is estimated that only one in five received the Rally Sport package. It features a stunning Cranberry Red exterior with dual rally striping paired with a custom Saddle interior.
Underneath the hood, you'll find a solid-lifter 350ci V-8 engine backed by a Muncie M21 four-speed transmission. The special 360-hp V-8 includes four-bolt mains, forged steel crank, TRW impact extruded pistons, 11:1 compression ratio, a 780-cfm Holley 4-barrel carburetor, a new high-rise aluminum manifold and an aluminum single-point, vacuum controlled distributor.
Other factory speed parts include: a high-performance oil pump, baffled pan, and windage tray, cast aluminum rocker covers with internal galleries, a twin-pulley fan drive, mechanical valve lifters, a chrome dress-up kit and a larger-capacity radiator.
Factory options include: Z28 Special Performance Equipment, Z22 Rally Sport Equipment, Positraction rear axle, soft-ray tinted glass, sport mirrors, AM pushbutton radio, auxiliary lighting, special 15-inch wheels and tires, and more!
"With the 1970 Z/28, Chevrolet was essentially giving its customers an honest-to-goodness racing motor. The LT-1 had a performance camshaft, solid lifters, a very high 11.0:1 compression ratio, a 780 cfm Holley 4-bbl carburetor, a free-flow aluminum intake, free-flow exhaust manifolds, and a low-restriction dual-exhaust system. The LT-1 on the streets was like a caged lion, seemly trapped and docile but still had the potential at any moment to leap out of its cage after its prey." —Oldcarmemories.com
