Witness the Extraordinary Taipei Lantern Festival in Taiwan
By: Bamboo Travel
Taipei, the capital city of Taiwan, is to host the famous and spectacular Lantern Festival from 5-19 February 2023, for the first time in 23 years; it marks the island's first major 'post-Covid' event.
The festival is expected to be the biggest in the event's 30 plus year history, with four exhibition areas, one central installation and six other major installations as part of a 300-lantern collection covering 168 hectares.
It is hoped the annual festival will boost international visitors to Taiwan, bringing valuable income to the island's tourism industry which, like many other parts of the world, was decimated by the Coronavirus pandemic.
Bamboo Travel offers three recommended private tours in Taiwan, all of which feature Taipei and the chance to witness the extraordinary lantern festival, including the popular two-week Treasures of Taiwan.
The tour covers a loop of this fascinating island to discover its many treasures. From the modern capital Taipei, head south with your private guide to explore the high mountains and deep gorges in the Taroko National Park.
Drive along the spectacular Highway 11 to soak in the natural hot springs of Chihpen, then on to the southern-most tip of the island to discover the rugged cliffs and beaches of the Kenting National Park.
Start heading back north up the west coast, spending the night in the monastery guesthouse at the sacred Fo Guang Shan monastery, and a night in Tainan to explore some of its famous temples and historical relics, and then up to the hills for a night in Alishan, where you will have the chance to watch its famous sunrise.
The tour finishes in style with two days to relax amid the natural beauty of Sun Moon Lake, followed by a final night back in Taipei.
The holiday can start on any day (flights permitting) and costs from £3,395 per person, based on two people sharing a room.
This includes international flights, all transportation on a private basis, 12 nights' B&B (plus two evening meals), activities/entrance fees and a guide for sightseeing.
