The Legacy of the Longford Circuit

LONGFORD, Australia - Oct. 25, 2022 - PRLog -- The inaugural Longford Grand Prix Expo, supported by the Tasmanian Government through Events Tasmania, will celebrate the rich history of Motorsport in Northern Tasmania through an immersive showcase of historical automobiles and motorcycles of yesterday & today.

Longford Grand Prix Expo is to take place in Longford, Tasmania on the 11th and 12th of March 2023. A celebration of all thing's motorsports featuring local Tasmanian food and beverage, educational programs, children's activities and local touring options.

The expo will build on the legacy of the Longford Circuit that prevailed from 1953 through to 1968. The former road racing circuit, was the host to the Australian Grand Prix, attracting 40,000 + crowds to the island of Tasmania.

These historical races attracted some of the world's best and fastest racers of the 1950s and 1960s including Sir Jack Brabham, Graham Hill, Jackie Stewart, Jim Clark, Brue McLaren, Leo Geoghegan, Bob Jane and Allan Moffat, who all exceeded speeds up to 288km/h over the 7.2km racetrack. Notable motorcycle racers of the time include Keith Campbell, Tom Phillis & Jack Findlay.

With a nod to the past, presenting an experiential journey into the future, the Expo will reposition Longford as the home of Australia's motorsport, mobility intelligence and a fascinating insight from industry enthusiasts.

Located within the Village Green, a hospitality Suite will offer guests an elevated Expo experience, from prime viewing, access to motorsport royalty, sumptuous all- day canapes and sparkling wine on arrival, with the option of a paid premium beverage package available at the bar.

South of Tasmania's second largest city, Launceston, Longford is surrounded by picturesque country estates and wineries, with the town's main street offering convict-era buildings and grand estates on the outskirts.
