ENTEBBE, Uganda - Oct. 6, 2022 - PRLog -- On Monday Sep 19,2022 TGR and Tech for Changes.net launched its first ever computer literacy program for students at UMEA Primary School (UMEA). Tech for Changes.net donated $1,500  and 6 new computers to UMEA for conversion of an unused room into a computer lab that will be used for computer literacy classes. These classes will be held weekly for a total of 7 hours in which students will participate in modules that educate them on computer basics such as system operations, utility of Microsoft tools (i.e. Microsoft Word), and utilizing the internet for research. This academic year, TGR's objective is to support UMEA's 6th grade class, currently occupying 98 students total, progress through the first module Tech for Change.net offers.

Prior to the pandemic, Uganda was classified as a low-income country that struggling with a learning crisis. Challenged with providing basic education for its students, ages 18 and under, Uganda has attempted to increase the literacy and numeracy levels but continues to face difficulty due to limited resources and staffing. This crisis became even more apparent and worsened amidst COVID-19, leading millions of children to be out of school. This deeply impacted rural communities where schools such as UMEA, were incapable of continuing their education for two years.

This generous contribution will directly improve the digital literacy levels for 1,367 students in the school with an expectation to contribute towards narrowing the current  literacy gap as most of the students did not attend classes for two years due to COVID-19.

We at TGR firmly believe that the future of education in Uganda is Tech, and we are beyond honored to have an organization who is equally as passionate about education to come alongside us and help us make a long- lasting change within communities like Kitubulu.
