CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Sept. 28, 2022 - PRLog -- Metro West Massachusetts Chapter of the National Association of Black Social Workers is holding the first ever Black Social Work Film Festival [09/29/2022, 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.] at Starlight Square in Cambridge, MA.

About this event: The films chosen are focused on social context that impact communities of color. Each film will include an invitation to the filmmaker and involve expert panelists to discuss the film's issues including mental health in the black community.

The first film in the series will feature Confused by Love by Crosby Tatum. A non-social author and his wife, invites his successful best friend & former ex-girlfriend to stay with them to save their home from foreclosure. The film will be followed by a panel discussion with Taneequa Fields LICSW, Roxann Mascoll LICSW, and Dr. Kwame Dance. This is a Free Event [$10.00 with CEU'S].  RSVP Tickets are available on Eventbrite.

"We plan on giving Social Workers, and the Black Community a chance to have fun while we talk about Mental Health," says Metro West Massachusetts Chapter President Taneequa Fields LICSW. The Chapter plans on having three more films in the series this year at different venues across the state. "Our new Chapter will use art as a backdrop to engage the community, to educate, and facilitate discussions about difficult mental health needs of the Black Community," adds Vice President Keith Mascoll. Metro West Massachusetts ABSW Chapter has members that range from Boston to Springfield Mass.

About The Creators: NABSW is designed to promote the welfare, survival, and liberation of the Black Community; and to advocate for social change at the national, state, and local level. NABSW is comprised of over 100 membership chapters, and over 30 university and college student chapters throughout the continental United States, Canada and the Caribbean. Additionally, affiliate groups are in both West and South Africa. Membership is available to persons of African ancestry who, regardless of profession, share similar concerns regarding health and welfare issues in the Black community.
