A Play Turns To Horror At The Movies

Japanese movie Frantic redefines Metacinema. Director Shugo Fujii (known for Mimicry Freaks) returns with a twisted feature film, an exhilarating plot and a labyrinthic narrative on the obsession to attain one's dream.
LOS ANGELES - Sept. 26, 2022 - PRLog -- In a Japanese theatre, an audience watches a play. It quickly becomes clear that events onstage are going off-script, building to the actors locking the doors and trapping everyone inside. The story then flashes back six months earlier when two of the actors: Sho, who continually gets humiliated at auditions, and Tatsu, harassed by his father and working in a convenience store, decide to follow their dreams by putting on their own play. Using criminal schemes to raise money, and soon in trouble with the local Yakuza, the play is their last chance to turn their lives around.

Frantic is surely an original piece for fans of Asian and Extreme Cinema. However, it should come as no surprise if this movie becomes the next "cult film" from Japan. Like Audition, Battle Royale, Tetsuo or Ringu, Frantic is a memorable and creative piece of horror cinema and it lands right on time for Halloween 2022.
