Fashion Pollution Reduced By Columbus Ohio Based Company

The Sustainery Connects Designers with Textile Manufacturers & Provides Education Around Sustainable Fashion
COLUMBUS, Ohio - Sept. 15, 2022 - PRLog -- The Sustainery® Textile Marketplace, a new Columbus-based wholesale business-to-business platform, connects textile industry manufacturers and suppliers with designers so unused textiles go back into the supply chain, reducing waste that typically enters landfills and incinerators.

The service gives unused and over-produced textiles a 'second chance' in the production of apparel, home décor and more, while helping reduce pollution. Textile waste exceeded 17 million tons in the United States in 2018. Globally, over 92 million tons are discarded annually.

"I have witnessed a lot of textile waste during my career in the apparel industry," says Donna Sikyta, Founder and CEO of The Sustainery. "Waste in supply chains is not often discussed. The Sustainery raises awareness by promoting a circular system where waste is seen as a valuable resource to companies that want to be more responsible and thoughtful about what products they source."

The Sustainery has also partnered with the Columbus Fashion Council (a non-profit organization who oversees Fashion Week Columbus), to connect with Central Ohio based designers and other regional fashion organizations to make a larger impact.

"With the fashion industry being the second largest polluter of the world, The Sustainery will help reduce fashion pollution by providing education and simple solutions to designers who are looking to become more sustainable as a brand," said Thomas McClure, Founder and Executive Director of the Columbus Fashion Council. "We're proud to partner with The Sustainery in their efforts of fighting fashion pollution."

In addition to being a resource for designers to buy existing deadstock, The Sustainery also provides a low-risk option for designers to resell rolls of unused fabrics. Currently they have a selection of high-quality chambray, denim, performance knits, plaid cotton shirting, and cotton melange knits, and they continue to add new fabrics as they become available.

Upcoming Events/launches: The Sustainery is developing a local textile recycling option for scraps, samples and fabric headers and plans to have this rolled out by Earth Day 2023.
