Over the past 20 years, Texas-based non-profit, Be A Champion, Inc. has adopted the social responsibility to help bridge the gap in nutrition and education services for children in underserved communities. Be A Champion Inc.'s Champion Fuel Food Program (Funded by the Texas Department of Agriculture) Champion Athletes Academy is the newest program offered through Be A Champion, Inc., in partnership with PepsiCo Food for Good. This program gives student-athletes firsthand job experience through the Champion Fuel Food Programs and experience in social responsibility. With the rising demand for substitute teachers, tutors, support staff, and enrichment, Be A Champion, Inc. supplies solutions for school-day academic support and after-school programs. The Educational Services Program offers over ninety customized structures that consist of enrichment and academics, servicing grades K-12. This program helps students enjoy enrichment activities and Increases time for social interaction with their friends after school. In partnership with The University of Houston, Be A Champion, Inc. gives underserved youth the opportunity to gain exposure to a college campus and game day experience through The Little Coogs Program. Little Coogs serves schools, churches, sports teams, and a variety of youth groups. Be A Champion, Inc. was founded in 2001 by two former offensive linemen for the University of Houston, Jaron K. Barganier and James Hong. Barganier and Hong both felt that athletes should be positive role models for young people and wanted to create a platform for athletes to give back. The mission of Be A Champion, Inc. is to use sports, education, and nutrition programs to enhance the development of our youth regardless of age, race, gender, religion, or creed.
