Decision made by Zambian President to abolish death penalty

On the occasion of Africa Day, Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema announced that he is planning to completely abolish the age-old tradition of the death penalty. This decision by the Zambian President was met with a significant positive response.  Dr. Rajan Mahtani, who is the owner and current Chairman of the Prison Fellowship Zambia, announced his full support towards the announcement made by the Zambian President. Prison Fellowship Zambia is a Christian Outreach Program. The program brings teachings of Almighty God to Zambian Prisoners. It provides transparent criminal justice opportunities to the prisoners. It also ensures prisoners are given fundamental dignity and human rights. Prison Fellowship Zambia will provide regulatory and legal support towards this decision

While praising the announcement made by the Zambian President,  Dr. Rajan Lekhraj Mahtani stated that giving death penalty does not provide any solution for the Zambian Government. There are hundreds of prisoners in Zambia awaiting the death penalty and they are constantly living a life in fear. At the same time, the condition of the Zambian prisons is extremely degrading with prisoners often devoid of even fundamental human rights and fundamental dignity. As such, the decision from the Zambian President is a step in the right direction.
