Alten Construction breaks ground on new Corte Madera Town Hall

CORTE MADERA, Calif. - Aug. 19, 2022 - PRLog -- Alten Construction (https://www.altenconstruction.com/), a full-service San Francisco Bay Area commercial construction company, recently broke ground on the full demolition and rebuild of the Corte Madera Town Hall (https://www.townofcortemadera.org/).

Located at 300 Tamalpais Drive, the $10.8 million project includes a new 11,800-square-foot two-story structure that will feature a public permit center, council chambers, administrative offices, conference rooms and meeting rooms. A new elevator will be installed, along with mechanical, plumbing, electrical and information technology facilities.

Alten Construction will perform exterior site improvement work, including modifying the slopes of the driveway and parking facilities, and the installation of ADA-compliant facilities. A landscaping plan with bioretention facilities will be utilized with protocols in place to protect three existing redwood trees while a raised plaza area is constructed around them, and the installation of a roof-mounted solar panel system with battery storage and backup system.

The commercial construction company began the project earlier this month and is expected to complete it in late 2023.

A groundbreaking ceremony was held on Friday, Aug. 5 to commemorate the occasion. Guests in attendance included Fred Casissa, mayor; Bob Ravasio, councilmember; Adam Wolff, interim town manager; Rebecca Vaughn, assistant town manager and Jake Horwath, project manager for the Town Hall project, among others.

"This is a monumental project that will construct a civic centerpiece for our community for generations to come," said R.J. Suokko, director of public works for the Town of Corte Madera.

The existing Corte Madera Town Hall was built in 1931 and originally served as the town's firehouse. In 1966, the Town of Corte Madera purchased the building from the fire department and converted it to the Town Hall. Once completed, the project is intended to create a more resilient, functional and inviting community asset that will serve the Town of Corte Madera for the next 50 to 100 years.
